Welcome to Landscapes Travel and thank you for visiting our website.

We specialise in high quality history, heritage and cultural tours and short breaks with expert guides in South West England from Cornwall and Devon to Wessex and the Cotswolds. Our services include private tours (for 1 to 6 people), group tours, study tours, day tours, short breaks and guided walks. They are available either as scheduled itineraries or as customised tours.

We create general history and cultural tours covering the whole or a part of South West England and special interest tours following themes such as archaeology and prehistory, houses and gardens, Christian heritage, Roman and medieval England, literary landscapes, maritime heritage and industrial archaeology.

South West England combines unsurpassed natural beauty and a unique heritage spanning over 5000 years of human endeavour. Across wild and remote granite moors, dramatic coasts, rolling green fields and tree lined river valleys our ancestors have left their mark - from Neolithic farmers' ceremonial stones to the statuesque Cornish engine houses which powered the industrial revolution.

No other region gives you greater opportunities to learn more about England's history. We can help you discover ancient landscapes studded with Iron Age hillforts and Celtic crosses, Roman villas with mosaics and bath houses, picturesque villages dominated by parish church and medieval manor house, stately homes surrounded by landscaped parks and sub tropical gardens, awe inspiring cathedrals in still vibrant historic cities, secluded fishing harbours and once bustling ports built for trade across an empire on which the sun never set.

All our tours and breaks are designed and accompanied by Landscapes Travel's owner Andrew Thompson, an historian and lecturer who has taught for many years in higher and adult education. If required we also work with other specialist guides and lecturers, such as archaeologists and museum curators, whom we choose carefully for their presentational skills as well as their expertise.

Our itineraries cater for discerning, independent-minded travellers who want an enjoyable and informative experience that ventures beyond conventional mass tourism. Travel with us gives you the opportunity to explore in depth and to really see and understand the South West's rich and varied landscapes, history and cultural heritage.

Nor do we forget the other essentials - accommodation with character, which we personally select for comfort and hospitality, and the excellent local food and drink for which South West England is renowned.

We pride ourselves on giving a high quality personal service which is friendly, flexible and versatile. So if you do not find what you are looking for on this website please do contact us and we will do our best to help.

Our customised tours and breaks provide tailor made itineraries to suit our clients' specific interests, requirements and budget and range from guiding only to all-inclusive packages. They are available as private tours for individuals, couples, families and small parties of up to 6 people and group tours for clubs, societies, educational institutions and other interested organisations.

If you are looking for a private or group tour you can also enjoy many of the same benefits by taking one of our suggested itineraries (available on this website soon) which have a number of accommodation options to suit different budgets. In Devon and Cornwall we run history and archaeology day tours including Dartmoor National Park, Tintagel and the North Cornwall coast and the World Heritage Site mining landscapes around Bodmin Moor and the Tamar Valley.

We are also a leading provider of UK based programmes for Elderhostel, the world's largest organiser of educational travel for people over 55, for whom we arrange a number of courses each year.
